Tin Star Christmas Script Sample

Introduction: It’s almost Christmas, A new sheriff is assigned to a small town just as word gets out that one of the meanest outlaws in the west is making his way back home. The townspeople worry that the new sheriff is in for more than he can handle (and so is he).

John Snow: (talking to his horse) Well Thunder, looks like the snow is just gonna keep fallin’. Near as I can figure we must be just a few miles from our next stop. Small town, small problems I always say, and Bethlehem Falls might just be small enough for us to settle down for a while. Just in time for Christmas too. It will be nice to have a real home at Christmas, with no real troubles for a change. Come on boy, just a little more to go, I can see the lights of town from here…

Black Jack: (talking to his horse on the other side of the stage) Almost home… finally out of that dusty old jail. All those years, just waiting… Can’t wait to get back to Bethlehem Falls and show everyone. Bet they thought they had seen the last of old Black Jack Cole, but I’ll show em’. I’ll show em all…  Bethlehem Falls is in for a big surprise this Christmas. (both exit stage opposite ways)

Scene 1

Mayor: He is due any minute, supposed to be here hours ago…

Trusty: Maybe the weather slowed him down.

Rusty: Maybe he got lost.

Dusty: Maybe he decided not to come.

Mayor: Decided not to come! Why would anyone decide not to come? Bethlehem Falls is a shining star in these dreary, endless plains.

Trusty: Sorry Mayor… you are right, I am sure he is on his way.

Rusty: Do you think he’ll take the job?

Dusty: Do you think he’ll last more than a week?

Mayor: Of course he’ll take the job! Of course he’ll last more than a week…whispers loudly (I hope). This town goes through sheriffs like cattle go through feed.

Trusty: Hold on Mayor… is that him?

Rusty: He looks like a sheriff… strong, brave, and smart!

Dusty: If he’s that smart he’ll just keep ridin’.

Mayor: Dusty!

John Snow:  Mornin’ gentlemen. This storm has me running a little late. I’m looking for Mayor Rogers. I might just be the new sheriff in town.

Mayor: Mr. Snow… pleased to meet you! Quite a storm brewing, nothing we’re not used to around here…  No time to waste though, the job is yours if you want it.

John Snow: Of course I want it! Every town needs a sheriff, and every sheriff needs a town.

Trusty: Our last one didn’t

Rusty: Left here in the middle of the night.

Dusty: Once he heard Jack Cole was headin’ back this way.

John Snow: The bank robber?

Trusty: He grew up around these parts.

Rusty: Robbed his first bank right here in town.

Dusty: Probably looking to settle some olds scores.

Mayor: Think nothing of it. I am sure the dubious Mr. Cole is making his way as far away from here as possible. So do we have a deal “Sheriff”?

John Snow: That we do Mr. Mayor, that we do. Just point me to where I’ll be staying. I’d like to clean up before meeting the locals. (Everyone exits the stage)
