Called To Christmas Script Sample

Introduction: Each Christmas we are called together… as families, as friends. We gather together to celebrate Christmas and welcome the greatest gift of all. We drive, fly, and travel just to be together. We all know what Christmas means and the importance of sharing it with someone. But what about that first Christmas, when everything was new? No traditions or understanding of what was about to happen… Join us as we take a look at the first time anyone was “Called to Christmas“.

SCENE 1 A Visit From Grandma and Grandpa

Staging: Mom and Dad and the three children at home in the living room. Grandma and Grandpa are offstage until needed.

Mom: Kids… someone get the door, Grandma and Grandpa are here!

Sam, Ethan, and Chris: Presents!!!

Mom: Kids!

Sam, Ethan, and Chris: (less enthusiastically) Hooray… Grandma and Grandpa are here…

Dad: Now kids! There will be none of that!

Mom: Listen to your father and open the door.

One of the children opens the door

Grandpa: Hi kids! How are you doing?

Sam, Ethan, and Chris:  Great!

Sam:  Any packages we can help you with?

Ethan: Large packages??

Chris: Or smaller but equally valuable packages?

Grandma: No kids, we haven’t even done our shopping yet.

Mom: Ahem… sorry, they just get a little excited this time of year.

Dad: Last night I found a toy catalog under my pillow!

Grandma: No need to explain dear, you were the same when you were young. You wanted one of everything… Now kids, we stopped by to see what you might be wanting this year.

Sam:  Are you kidding! I want a new video game system!

Ethan: Or a phone, we both want a phone!

Chris: And I want a new laptop

Sam: How about some new earbuds

Ethan: Bluetooth- they gotta be Bluetooth.

Chris: Yeah, Bluetooth is the best.

Grandpa: Are they still speaking English dear? The older they get, the less I know.

Grandma: Electronics dear… games and phones and technology.

Grandpa: Oh my!

Grandma: I got this dear… Why don’t you head into the den, “White Christmas” is on in 5 minutes

Grandpa: Crosby and Kaye and Clooney, oh my!

Grandpa exits the stage

Sam: Now who’s not speaking English?

Grandma: I heard that young man… why don’t you two go enjoy the movie while I handle these dear, sweet children…

Dad: You don’t have to ask me twice!

Dad exits the stage

Mom: Wait for me…

Mom exits the stage

Grandma: Now, one at a time… What do you want this Christmas, in “plain English” as Grandpa would say…

Sam:  Video game system

Ethan: Cell phone

Chris: Bluetooth earbuds

Grandma: Much better! You know, Christmas used to be a lot less complicated. Though I bet that they had their troubles too, those kings and shepherds…

Ethan: What do you mean?

Grandma: Well, Christmas is only Christmas because of God’s gift to us, and what good is a gift without anyone to give it too? I imagine they had quite a few challenges gathering that first Christmas.

Chris: Like what?

Grandma: Close your eyes and listen, you’ll see what I mean. Listen to the story of those who were first called to Christmas…

Grandma and grandkids exit the stage
