One Silent (But Snowy) Night Script Sample

Introduction: Good Evening, and Merry Christmas. Welcome to our presentation of One Silent (But Snowy) Night. Join us as we watch what happens when a blizzard puts a small-town Christmas Eve Mass in danger of being cancelled, but like other Christmases before, things happen to surprise even the most faithful. As you will see, it takes everyone if things are to go as planned. Our story starts at St. Nicholas Church, as the storm is picking up and the pastor is feeling down…

Scene 1

Fr. Joe: Enters the church to the sound of howling winds, removes hat (dumping off snow), brushes shoulders… Half an hour to get from the rectory to the church! I’ve never seen a storm quite this bad, and on Christmas Eve to boot! I’m not sure that anyone will be making it for morning services, much less Midnight Mass

Sister Ann:  Father Joe, is that you?

Fr. Joe: Sister Ann! How long did it take for you to get here from the convent?

Sister Ann:  I came over early before the storm got too bad. Not sure about getting back though. I must say, it is really coming down out there.

Fr. Joe: I know. I was just thinking we might not have Midnight Mass. I am worried… No one is out on the streets, no traffic, no anything!

Sister Ann:  It does look peaceful… but instead of worrying we should be working. There is much to do. Think of that first Christmas Eve…so much more to worry about than a silly snowstorm. Mary and Joseph…traveling…no place to stay.

Fr. Joe: As always Sister, you are right. Let’s get started with our decorating and hope for the best.

Sister Ann:  We have a whole church to decorate, I don’t know where to start.

Fr. Joe: Let’s start with the tree, maybe that will keep my mind off the weather.

Fr. Joe and Sister Ann start decorating the tree off to the side of the stage

Scene 2

Sister Ann:  Not bad, not bad at all.

Fr. Joe: It does look good, but we need more than a tree to celebrate. We need people, we need music!

Miss Halfnote: Did someone say music?

Sister/Fr. Joe: Miss Halfnote! You made it!!

Miss Halfnote: Of course, with the choir right behind me! It wasn’t easy, but a little four-wheel drive goes a long way. And I was able to pick up the whole choir on the way here.

Fr. Joe: Wonderful! What do you need to get ready?

Miss Halfnote: Just some room to practice, we don’t want to be a bother.

Sister Ann: No worry… I think some music is just the thing to keep our spirits up. Go ahead and get started.

Miss Halfnote: Thank you Sister. Choir…positions please!
